Planning your Holiday
Your individual interests have a huge sway on the kind of self catering holiday home that is right for you, along with the amount of time you have to spend and budget available.
Our properties are situated in stunning locations across, and although mainly in our home territory of South Devon, we do have a scattering further afield, making it easier for you to find a property to meet all of your needs. The tradition of a good old cottage holiday, even if that cottage is an apartment or a larger family home, really is the perfect way to experience the freedom of the South West, at your own pace and on terms which suit you.
Where to Visit...
Your first step is to decide on what part of Devon you wish to visit. Our Local Guide pages will give you a few hints and tips from our team on our favourite attractions, to see which of our fabulous South Devon destinations would suit you best. There are some fabulous and iconic towns and villages for you to chose from, including Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Shaldon, Teignmouth, Dawlish, Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge, to name just a few on offer.
When to Stay...
Next you need to decide what time of year is going to work best for you. Remember, just because you may wish to holiday at the peak Summer season, it's not necessarily going to guarantee you the best weather, despite being some of the most popular times of year to holiday in Devon. In fact, May, June and September and October are the months when you will enjoy some of South Devon’s best climates, and might even be the right times to escape those summer crowds! Whichever time of year you book, Devon makes for a great holiday destination all year round.
Getting the Price Right...
Once you've decided where and when, it comes down to cost, and to try and see what you can get for your money. Some parts of Devon offer more budget-friendly holiday destinations than others, so it's worth having an idea of what you can get in the area you want to stay. All of our holiday homes offer excellent value for money though, so we will definitely be able to help you with this!
The Right Facilities
If you're coming away with certain groups of people, you might need specific facilities. We all have that something we need, whether it's something basic like WiFi internet connection, or something more specific like accommodation all on one level to help those with mobility limitations, or an enclosed garden for your four legged friends. Of course, you'll also need to plan the number of bedrooms which you'll need, and might even want a specific feature such as a sea or river view, or a beach within walking distance.
Self Catering Breaks for Families...
For families, it's worth thinking not just about getting the right facilities in your holiday home, but what's in the surrounding area too. We're proud to have holiday homes in close proximity to some amazing Devon tourist attractions, including family adventure parks, award-winning zoos, some of the cleanest beaches around, golf courses and even just open space to enjoy or kick a ball around in.
Of course, self-catering is also perfect for families who might struggle to keep everyone happy in a hotel. They're a home from home, giving you the flexibility to prepare meals when you want, to have the space you need, and many of them are also pet-friendly, meaning that your whole family can join you, whether they have two legs or four!
Perfect for Romantic Retreats...
The stunning countryside, coupled with miles of fabulous coastline and beaches, make South Devon a great option for couples looking for a romantic getaway. Choose from the total privacy of a quaint rural cottage or stunning seaview apartment, or something unique to create Devon memories that will last a lifetime.
There’s a lot on offer when going self-catering, and we're here to help you to make sure you're getting exactly what you want! With plenty of planning, whether an advanced booking or last minute bargain break, a Discovery Holiday Homes self-catering break is the best way to enjoy a holiday in South Devon.
