Paignton Cottages and Apartments
Situated at the centre of Torbay, the renowned family-friendly, traditional seaside town of Paignton offers a wide choice of attractions, days out and events throughout the year, making it an excellent choice for your Devon holiday.
Once a favourite tourist destination for the Victorians with the arrival of the railway in 1859, it’s now loved for its long sandy beaches, lively seafront, colourful beach huts and charming pier. Of course, the traditional railway link still exists in Paignton, with the steam railway travelling along the coastline and through to Kingswear, past Agatha Christie’s Galmpton home, and exploring the beauty of the English Riviera coastline and the river Dart.
Young and old are sure to be entertained too, with a year-round calendar of fabulous events, festivals and celebrations. To name just a few that Paignton is renowned for, the bright summer carnival and Children’s Week on Paignton Green are sure to draw out the crowds, whilst the BMAD biker festival runs from the Spring and into the late summer.
What to See and Do
A Paignton holiday just wouldn’t be complete without a strolling along the town’s iconic pier on Paignton sands – an iconic symbol of both Torbay and Paignton for over a hundred years. The traditional amusements have been kept in place, but with some exciting additions over the years that families will enjoy. Looking for a slower pace? Why not let the kids enjoy the amusements whilst you take in the panoramic sea view with a drink on the deck chairs.
Amongst the most popular, family friendly beaches in Paignton is Goodrington Sands, an one of Torbay’s Blue Flag award-winning beaches, stretching as far as the eye can see with sand and pebbles under foot. There’s plenty to do here, whether you’re exploring the rock pools for wildlife, relaxing in the sun on the beach, or rushing to Spalshdown Quaywest, the UK’s largest outdoor water park, which is just behind the beach! Outdoor family fun in Paignton is assured, especially in the summer months.
If maritime sights are what you’re looking to see then look no further than the far end of Paignton Sands – you’ll find the picturesque harbourside! Whilst not as grand as Torquay’s iconic harbour, it’s a popular sight for those looking to admire boating in Torbay. You can also stroll a little further along to Fairy Cove, a small beach which even in the peak of summer can offer a quieter place to enjoy sun, sand and the peace of the coastline.
Aside from the beaches, the large number of Paignton tourist attractions bring families to this stunning area each year. Not only does the town offer the iconic steam railway, it also plays host to the multi-award-winning Paignton Zoo, set within 80 acres of land and with over 2000 animals, including some of the planets rarest and most amazing creatures.
