Clearwater stands in almost half an acre, facing due south over Torbay. Trading Standards allowed the view to be described as ‘one of the finest sea views on the south coast’ when the Homeowners bought the house. It is truly spectacular, especially on a sunny day but it can also be very dramatic on a stormy day. You’ll see some of the biggest ships in the world come past, as they pick up or drop off pilots from Brixham to take them up or down the English Channel. Cruise liners regularly visit the bay throughout the summer and stay for a day or two. The Homeowners even had an aircraft carrier parked at the bottom of the garden!
You’ll certainly see every type of leisure craft out on the water but do keep your eyes open for dolphins: there’s a large pod of them in the bay and are often seen from the house. The lines of black blobs further out in the bay are buoys holding up the ropes of a scallop farm.
The garden is alive with wildlife. There are squirrels, rabbits, pheasants plus a wide variety of garden birds and foxes, badgers and bats when the sun goes down. The sea pine is home to a family of woodpeckers while a family of jays live in the trees at the bottom of the garden. You’ll also see buzzards and hawks overhead and, of course, lots of seagulls.
Locally, Wellswood village has a wide range of shops, including an artisan bakery, delicatessen, florist, coffee shops, hairdressers, beauty salon as well as a well-stocked Co-op supermarket, a post office and chemist, all just five minutes away; there’s also a huge Marks & Spencer (with a big foodhall) and Sainsburys within a 10-15 minute drive at The Willows retail park.
In fact, everything you’ll need for a great holiday, from boat hire to model villages, from tigers to sandy beaches and from picturesque harbours to clotted cream ice cream (very important!), are all right on our doorstep. You may also be interested to know that the English Riviera is a designated UNESCO Global Geopark, one of only seven in the UK and just 140 worldwide, as it has 32 individual geological sites, covering three geological time periods, all within a compact area. To find out more, a visit to the amazing Kents Cavern is a good place to start.
Finally, back in the seventies and eighties, Clearwater was home to some of the UK’s biggest celebrities. It was rented out to the Princess Theatre on a long lease for several years and all the stars appearing in summer season or panto stayed here. Larry Grayson liked it so much he bought a bungalow up the road. Shirley Bassey, Des O’Connor and Bruce Forsyth already had homes here. Cannon & Ball kept the lease on for a few more months and moved their families in. Some of the parties here must have been legendary!
So, Clearwater is a wonderful home, with a great history, in a unique, tranquil location and is much loved by the homeowners and their family. The Homeowners want to make sure that you enjoy it too!

Outside Space: Clearwater has a garden next to the Driveway and Garage to the rear of the House, at the front of the house there is fully enclosed garden with a Loggia in front of the Lounge with Rattan Table with Two Seating Benches and Two Freestanding Armchairs. This Loggia then leads to another paved Terrace with Two Sun Loungers. There is a third Terrace in front of the Kitchen area which is suitable if you are having a Barbeque (Please be aware this property does not come with a Barbeque however, the guests are able to bring disposable Barbeques to use if they would like. Please dispose of this Barbeque appropriately). The Terraces then lead to the vast garden which is just under half an acre, it has beautiful views of the sea and is slightly sloped and is grassed with trees. There is a greenhouse however, please do not leave children unattended by the Greenhouse.
Parking: Parking for three vehicles is available on the Driveway.
Security deposit: This property has a refundable Accidental Damage Deposit of £1000, which is payable to Blueriver Cottages with the final balance of your holiday, eight weeks prior to your arrival, and is refunded within 5 working days of your departure.
Power and Heat: Gas and Electricity included in the rent. Gas Fire in the Lounge. Heated Towel rails in each bathroom.
Bedding and Linen: Bed linen and towels are provided (Please bring your own beach towels).
