Moor up to history and river views in Galmpton!
Situated along Devon's idyllic River Dart at Galmpton, this newly renovated boathouse provides couples and groups of 4 with a unique waterside haven.
The charming boathouse has certainly played its part in history, having been used to store the captured Spanish prisoners after the Armada in 1588, and the supposed secret entrance in the 1800's for the mistresses of the 'Prince of Pleasure', the future King Edward VII; who was staying in the adjoining house.
Beautifully modernised throughout, the 1 bed boathouse today offers a sleek and contemporary oasis for year-round holiday stays.
Every home comfort is to hand within the immaculately presented interior, including toasty under floor heating and free Wi-Fi. The sunny living area offers a serene sanctuary in which to curl up with a good book or enjoy a favourite movie, to the digital flat screen TV and DVD player provided.
The bright and welcoming living area is spacious and open plan, enabling for carefree relaxing and entertaining. Guests can easily enjoy rustling up a tasty meal to the modern fitted kitchen, which is fully equipped for stress-free meals in. All the must-have appliances are provided, including a cooker hob, eye-level oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, dishwasher and fridge freezer, alongside all the necessary utensils and crockery.
A relaxed breakfast bar lined with 4 bar stools and a stylish indoor dining area for 4 provides a lovely setting for enjoying quality moments together, whilst a sunny private riverside terrace offers an idyllic mealtime backdrop. Furnished with a bistro dining set and stone-built BBQ, the scene is set for alfresco daytime meals and romantic evening drinks, as the sun sets across this beautiful stretch of the River Dart.
Couples and groups of 4 can perfectly be accommodated within the tranquil interior of the riverside retreat, with a spacious master double bedroom featuring alongside a double size sofa bed to the living area. The master bedroom enjoys serene views of the river, for a unique ambience in which to revive and replenish the senses, with a guilt-free holiday slumber.
A luxury fitted contemporary bathroom with a bath tub and overhead shower provides a spa-like feel at the end of a day of sightseeing, whilst for added convenience a utility room with laundry facilities is also to hand.
As well as the lovely river front terrace and private quay setting, a sun deck lined with glass walls offers the perfect excuse to enjoy a spot of scenic sunbathing during your stay. The main house also offers a lovely sunny garden, which guests can enjoy upon request.
The unique boathouse retreat is situated all laterally on one floor, and features disabled-friendly access as well as a convenient private parking space. Adjoining the main house and located next to the bobbing boats of Galmpton Creek and Boatyard, guests can savour a peaceful setting away from all the hustle and bustle. Guests are within easy reach though of the Manor Pub and the local village amenities, just a 10 minute stroll away.
The retreat offers far reaching views across to Dittisham on the other side, and overlooks the boatyard's most famous residence, the derelict Western Lady (RML535). Just one of 4 surviving ex-Naval Fairmile B UK launches, and renowned for having played its role in the D Day landings of World War II, the boat today provides a haunting and romantic quality to the picturesque quayside setting.
The ancient village of Galmpton is situated within enviable reach of Agatha Christie's famous Greenway house (1.4 miles), which offers wonderful National Trust parkland and vistas overlooking the River Dart. Guests can also enjoy a day out on the Dartmouth Steam Railway, with its route passing through Kingswear, where a scenic ferry ride to Dartmouth awaits.
A holiday here offers a classic backdrop of glorious coastal countryside, which can be fully admired with a moment of bird watching, walking and sightseeing. A fantastic range of walking trails and the popular South West Coastal Path provides the perfect 'walk with a view' in Devon, whilst a host of beautiful gardens including Coleton Fishacre Garden (3.8 miles), Cockington (4.7 miles) and Greenway House (1.4 miles) set the scene for a magical day out.
Alongside the friendly Manor Inn pub in Galmpton, guests are within easy reach of the alfresco dining options, delicious pizzas, fresh mussels and Indian and Thai eateries of Paignton (2.8 miles) and the fish and seafood restaurants, bistros, pubs, café bars and fine dining options of Brixham (3.1 miles).
A host of popular activities are also on the doorstep of Galmpton and the surrounding area, including sailing clubs, water sports, beach days, surfing, golf clubs, water parks, zoos and the vibrant delights of Torquay (5.9 miles).

Beautiful location with nice terrace to sit and watch the sunsetDr Marcia Kelson - 7th August 2018
Lovely views over the river. Very peaceful. Final approach to accommodation single track but no real problem. Host friendly and showed us round but left us alone to enjoy our holiday. Thank you. Great base to enjoy steam train and riverboat trips as well as National Trust houses and gardens, Coleton Fishacre highly recommended. Great area for eating out and walks, though driving along some minor country lanes was a bit stressful, the destinations were worth it. Mrs Marian Bateman - 26th June 2018

Galmpton Boathouse is a true get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Its a little gem perched on the river bank where you can sit on the balcony, let the world just go by and just listen to the chinking of boat masts. The property is very well appointed and has everything you need for your stay. It is very well positoned for day trips out to Dartmouth, Paignton, Totnes etc and the Steam Train station is located only a couple of miles at the top of the main road. The owners are lovely, very accommodating and on hand as much, or as litle as you like. A really fabulous little Boathouse and one that I am already planning to return to. Highly Recommend.Lea, Buckinghamshire - 1st January 2016

An idyllic and magical week of instant relaxation! So much to do and see from the doorstep. Local store and great food at the local pub all within walking distance. We loved returning to the calm oasis after a day out exploring, to a drink of the balcony watching the tide go in or out and the sun setting.Anna M, Benson - 1st January 2016
I really enjoyed staying here. Extremely comfortable, thoughtfully planned accommodation in a lovely, magical setting. Bobby is a most welcoming but discreet owner. A wonderful range of walks from the door and good bus, boat and steam train services nearby mean that a car is hardly necessary. The approach by unmade track might feel a little tricky the first time but clear directions are supplied and it's well worthwhile.Steph - Derbyshire - 1st January 2016
