Paws for Thought - Why Accepting Pets Opens a New World of Booking Potential
Chinese New Year has been and gone, and we're now fully submerged into the year of the dog. In honour of this, we're celebrating our pet-friendly properties, and encouraging owners to open up to accept pets at their property.
Self-catering in Devon is always a popular choice, especially in the peak summer season when fun in the sun is almost a guarantee. But with this high demand comes huge levels of competition, and demand for pet-friendly rentals is on the up! But why is this?
One of The Family
Summer is the perfect time for a family holiday in Devon, with a wide calendar of events and an itinerary full of attractions sure to entertain everyone, from the youngest of kids to granny and grandpa. But when guests are having a family holiday, it's sure that they'll want to bring the whole family - and that includes the four-legged family members! Dogs are one of the family, so it's no wonder that they're an important factor to consider when booking your next holiday in Devon.
The Perfect Location
Of course, pet-friendly holidays are nothing new, but Devon is a rising star in the pet-friendly self-catering holiday market. From its miles of long sandy beaches, perfect for early morning dog walks, to Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks for roaming the countryside, Devon offers great opportunities for pet lovers who love to explore. That's likely why around one in six of our holidays each year include at least one pet.
Is One Pet Enough?
That's a good question! It's difficult to place a number on the ideal number of pets to accept in a property, and there's a simple reason - there's such a wide variety of pets in everyone's family! From non-pet families to our very own Christie Burton and her small army of furry friends, different people have different preferences. The key is flexibility - whilst you may only want to accept one large dog, three smaller dogs who don't malt may cause no more, or even less in the way of additional cleaning. We also charge a fee of £25 per pet, which means potentially an increase in revenue for you, just for opening up this popular option.
What About Damage?
This is a common worry, but there are two steps to avoiding this happening, as well as covering you when it does, both of which we will help you with as an agency. Perhaps the most important is to vet (excuse the pun) the groups on booking. A good pet owner will ensure that their pet is behaved, and that any mess is cleared up after their stay. In the unlikely event that damage does still occur as a result of a pet-friendly booking, you're covered; a refundable Good Housekeeping Deposit or Good Housekeeping Deposit Waiver is taken with every booking, which cover you for a fixed value against damage at your property.
